Bringing Art Lessons to Homeschooled Kids
The homeschool community in Singapore holds a special place in my heart. When a mom asked me to teach art to kids within the community, I didn’t hesitate. My favourite moment? Kids approaching me after class, eager to learn how to draw the characters and animals that mattered most to them.

Mural Painting
I assisted murals at Bishan Library, Bedok Library, and VIVA Foundation (Novena) under NAFA’s Special Projects Unit. I adored every project and hope to lead my own mural designs someday. My favorite part was when complete strangers stop and ask if they could add a brushstroke , because to me, that’s what art is for.

Teaching Art At Little Artist
I began as a student at this studio, inspired by my teachers. So I asked to intern. I taught kids to draw, sculpt, paint, and even batik. But here’s the truth: they taught me more. After years obsessing over skill, I’d forgotten how to be creative. My students reminded me. They called me ‘Teacher Julie’ the funny teacher , because I always made sure to keep learning art fun.

Volunteering at The Affordable Art Fair
I volunteered at The Affordable Art Fair as an usher and floater. I wasn’t making art , I was making sure others could experience it easily. Guiding crowds, answering questions, solving little problems. Because community work isn’t only about creating art. It’s about opening doors to it.
Why Community Work is Important
Art isn’t just for artists. Through murals and teaching, I show that creativity belongs to everyone, anywhere, any skill level, any age.
